Parliamentary Briefing

About Parliamentary Briefing

Who we are, what we build, and where our data comes from.

Who we are

Parliamentary Briefing is a small, independent commercial software service built by Martin Lugton and Duncan Lugton. The service is currently in private beta, and we are in the process of forming a UK company to operate it. We are not connected to, funded by, or endorsed by any parliament, government department or public body.

What we do

We help charity policy and public affairs teams prepare for meetings with elected representatives. Give us the name of a parliamentarian and the issue you want to raise, and we generate a short research briefing: what they have said on the subject, where their interests overlap with yours, and what you might usefully ask for. Every claim carries a citation back to its original source.

Where our data comes from

Our briefings are built from public records — principally Hansard contributions and written questions, obtained through the UK Parliament's official open-data APIs and used in accordance with the Open Parliament Licence. We also draw on published news coverage. We attribute our sources on every briefing so you can check anything yourself.

Which parliaments we cover

The word "parliamentary" in our name describes the kind of institution our customers are briefed on, not a relationship with any particular one. Today we cover the UK Parliament at Westminster. Extending the service to the UK's devolved legislatures and to the parliaments of Australia, New Zealand and Canada is on our roadmap.

Our independence

Parliamentary Briefing is an independent service, not affiliated with or endorsed by the UK Parliament. We use no parliamentary emblems, crests or branding — including the crowned portcullis — and nothing we publish is an official parliamentary publication. Our briefings are generated automatically using AI from public sources; they are our own product, not Parliament's.
